27 writers reveal “the hidden pleasures and perils of being a grandmother.” This is the subtitle from editor Barbara Graham’s collection of narratives by grandmothers. “Eye of My Heart.” They write from the heart about their experiences as grandmothers, and all the difficulties of tentative attachments and the pain of broken bonds.
My own story as a grandparent is heart breaking and it stems for the mess our society is in with all the children being born to unwed parents and the sad fact that children are used as tools to get what the custodial parent wants and weapons to hurt the people who love them. I have 2 grandchildren I love very much but the mothers of these children are heartless. I fell in love with them when they were born and then later found out that they were not truly blood related. Now I can only see them once in a while if at all. The details are too long and complicated but leave it to say that the lies and deception on the part of the mothers have broken my heart over and over. As a grandmother with no rights at all, I pray with my whole heart that people would go back to the old fashioned ways when children where not born outside of a stable family. God forgive us all for such stupidity that has destroyed the fabric of this nation.
